Here’s a very supportive editorial published in the Nov. 28 Calgary Herald:
Ignore boycott, it’s time to BUYcott Israel
With the Aryan Guard in Calgary disbanding, it’s good riddance to one bunch of anti-Semites. Now, if only another bunch would disperse, as well. The misguided members of this particular group plan to picket at Mountain Equipment Co-op stores today to protest the retailer’s selling of Israeli-made products. MEC management should ignore them and continue selling made-in-Israel goods. Anyone who wants to boycott merchandise made in a democracy because of the despicable belief that this democracy has no right to defend itself against attacks by terrorists determined to wipe it out should be dismissed with the contempt merited.
Israel is the only country in the world that suffers condemnation for fighting back when attacked–and that bespeaks loudly of anti-Semitism, for no other reason is discernible.
Sunday, a counter-protest is taking place–it’s called BUYcott Israel, and its purpose is to urge people to go to MEC and specifically purchase Israeli products there, to show their support for Israel and for MEC’s sensible refusal to cave in to the wrong-headed protesters. The pressure must be kept up against those who would boycott Israel.

Congratulations!! This editorial is reasonable, very substantiated and courageous.
My very best regards,
Sabine Graf
Bravo to Calgary, the Herald, MEC and Buycott Israel!
Thank you so much for this article. I will remember November 29th, 2009 as the day I went with my family to purchase my MEC membership and to buy Israeli made products. I wore my Israeli made baseware shirt and leggings to the Grey Cup! They kept me warm in body and spirit.
This is one American who is sending a grateful THANK YOU to the Calgary Herald for writing such an outstanding, and sensible editorial. We need to stop antisemitism and discrimination everywhere. Can you please share your editorial with the Boston (MA) Globe?
Great Article; if the protesters would stop for one minute and give some thought to the boycott, they might understand that this doesn’t help the cause of the Palestinian people they want to stand up for. Perhaps it’s possible that some of the factories that make the items MEC sells employs Palestinians, who in turn support their arab families living in the surrounding areas? So in the end, who would they really be hurting – the Israelis? or their much loved underdogs who need to earn a living somewhere, somehow. I will continue Buycott Israel where and when possible, in order that ALL people can earn a place on earth, and support their families as best they can.
Congratulations for standing up against the continuing stupididity of racism!
Thank You Calgary Herald for this excellent article supporting the democracy of Israel and the right to defend herself. May this paper and article flash across the globe. God Bless You
Thank you so very much for your efforts. As a Canadian Jew, I take pride in this Canadian based initiative.
